Japanese fishing vessel in distress 800 miles off NI
The UK Coastguard are currently involved in assisting a Japanese fishing vessel in distress about 800 miles off the coast of Northern Ireland.
At about 11:40pm last night Falmouth Coastguard picked up a distress call from Kinshoumaru No 18' with a crew of 23.
The fishing vessel gave a position of 800 miles west of the coast of Northern Ireland.
A Nimrod aircraft has been sent to the area and a satellite broadcast has been made to shipping in the area to assist with the search.
Falmouth Coastguard are being given assistance from the Japanese Coastguard and also from the US Coastguard, who are advising shipping in the area to offer assistance. The American flagged US Navy's civilian crewed oceanographic vessel 'Mary Sears' responded to the Coastguards broadcast for assistance and is en route to the distress position.
Earlier this morning Falmouth Coastguard Watch Manager, Simon Rabett, said: "The weather on scene is believed to be not bad, with about an 8ft sea swell.
“The RAF Nimrod Aircraft will be on scene within a couple of hours and 'Mary Sears' is expected to be on scene in about five hours time.

Fishing Vessel Sinks Near Falmouth
A neighbouring ship has rescued two crewmembers of a sinking fishing vessel four miles east of Falmouth on Wednesday evening. One crewmember is seriously ill and has been transferred to Treliske Hospital in Truro after the ship sank in Gerrans Bay, the Maritime Coastguard said. Falmouth Coastguard said they were informed of the incident at 10.

Man escapes blaze on yacht
A man has escaped uninjured after his yacht caught fire while he slept onboard in the early hours of this morning. Falmouth Coastguard was called, following reports of a fire onboard a vessel in the Penryn River around 4am.

A major rescue operation off Scotland involving a listing cargo vessel has been stood down. The Latvian registered vessel Sea Fox got into difficulties when the cargo of timber shifted and the vessel developed a 50 degree list.

A major search operation for a trawler and four fishermen missing off the Kent coast has resumed this morning. An air and sea search was launched on Wednesday afternoon following reports the Belgian fishing boat was missing in rough seas and gale force winds.

Helicopter dispatched to rescue crew of Spanish fishing boat
A Coastguard helicopter has been dispatched to rescue 19 crew aboard a stricken Spanish fishing vessel, which is in difficulties 180 miles west of the Isle of Lewis. Earlier today an RAF Nimrod aircraft located the FV Cibeles, in the same area as the signal from an emergency radio beacon, after voice contact with the vessel had been lost.
