£2m Allocated To Upgrade Blackpool Illuminations
The Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) has allocated £2 million to Blackpool Illuminations, the UK's only Grade II listed lido.
The money, from a £36m fund which allocates revenue from marine activity, will be used to create new light shows on the 1930s art deco structure.

Liverpool named as European Capital of Culture 2008
It has been announced today that Liverpool as been chosen as the European Capital of Culture for 2008. The city's name will now go forward to the European Union who will respond next year. Culture minister Tessa Jowell said that Liverpool was a "worthy winner" of the honour.

The Trades Union Congress has launched its 2006 Fund Manager Voting Survey. The survey asks how investors voted on key issues at company AGMs last year. The survey provides pension fund trustees with information about how managers are addressing governance issues at the companies they invest in.

Fire service allocated £132m for new equipment
The Fire and Rescue Service will get £132 million over three years to provide brigades with new equipment to help them deal with major incidents, the government has announced. The investment will fund modern search and rescue equipment such as heavy lifting gear, search cameras and high volume water pumps.
