Firefighters Announce Strike Action

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has announced strike action "in the coming weeks".

Firefighters across England will stage a 24-hour strike in an ongoing dispute over proposed changes to pensions.

The FBU said it is concerned that its members could be forced to retire on reduced pensions if they fail new fitness tests under the proposed plan.

A date has not yet been set for when the strike action will take place.

Two Arrested Over Liverpool FC Ticket Scam

Two men have been arrested in connection with an alleged ticket forging operation for Liverpool FC matches.

An investigation was launched after a fan from around the world who bought tickets online either didn't receive them or was sent fakes.

Raids on premises in Breck Road, Dewsbury Road and Harrow Road led to the seizure of printing equipment and other materials.

Police arrested two men in connection with the case.

New Rare £2 Coin Enters Circulation

A new £2 coin commemorating the Royal Navy in World War One has entered UK circulation.

It is understood the new coin will be the rarest in UK circulation, with just 100 produced by the Royal Mint.

The coins will also be the last to feature the current portrait of the Queen.

Dedicated ITV News Channel axed
ITV has announced that following a "strategic review" it is to invest £2 million in its news programming but the axe has fallen on its 24-hour rolling ITV News Channel. The company said that the decision came after a review of the network’s news services as part of an evaluation of the future requirements for ITV news up to 2010 and beyond.

Network Rail in High Court bid to halt strike
Network Rail has applied to the High Court for an injunction against strike action by rail workers proceeding next week. The Rail and Maritime Transport (RMT) union is to hold a 24-hour strike on Tuesday June 29 and Wednesday June 30, over a failure to reach agreement on pensions.
