Virgin Media To Create Thousands Of Jobs Following Broadband Investment
Up to 6,000 new jobs could be created with a £3 billion investment in fibre optic broadband Virgin Media has announced.
The company, which currently has five million customers, said that the investment is the largest in the UK for more than a decade and would be worth £8bn in terms of stimulating economic activity.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, the company's Tom Mockridge, said: "I think an investment of this size is unambiguously helping to close the digital divide. Everything can't happen at once so we are really focusing on the areas where we can bring ultra fast broadband as quickly as possible and as effectively as possible."
Mockridge also called on BT to improve its existing infrastructure through investment.
