Mother Appeals To Missing Son

The mother of a boy who disappeared in Greece in 1991 has issued a direct appeal for him to make contact.

Ben Needham went missing on the island of Kos during a family holiday in 1991. He was 21 months old.

His mother Kerry has always maintained that Ben is alive and believes that he was abducted and likely to be living with a family who look nothing like him.

In the message posted on her website, which is published in both English and Greek, the 42-year-old from Sheffield, wrote: "This is a direct appeal to anyone who is around 25 years old and possibly living with a family who you look nothing like, I beg you to get in contact with me.

"I promise to cause no problems for your family who you live with, I just want you to know the truth about what happened to you and to know you are healthy and happy.

"A simple DNA sample can be taken from you without causing any distress to anyone. So, if you think you were born in 1989 and you have blue/grey eyes and a possible birthmark on your leg, YOU could be Ben!!!"

The appeal follows a decision in January by the Home Office to fund a new British investigation into Ben's disappearance. South Yorkshire Police appealed for money to fund an investigation, based on information provided by Ben's family suggesting that the case had not been properly investigated.
