Country estate manager killed by wasp sting

A 53-year-old manager of a country estate has died after being stung by wasps.

Guy Canby was stung on the knee when he stood on a wasp nest while grouse shooting on an isolated moor in the Peak District on Saturday.

It is understood that Mr Canby rapidly became short of breath and despite attempts at resuscitation by two doctors at a nearby inn, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

His wife Diana Canby, 49, who was a guest at the shooting party, said that she had no idea that her husband was allergic to wasp stings, though she said one of her sons was known to be allergic.

Mr Canby was manager of the 17,000 acre Fitzwilliam Estate at Wentworth near Rotheram.
