Weather Warning For Wind Issued

The Met Office has issued a warning for winds up to 60mph across many parts of England, Wales, southern Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The forecaster has said that gusts of 50-60mph are expected, reaching 65-70mph in isolated areas, becoming stronger throughout the day.

The Met Office warning states: "The public should be aware of the risk of localised damage from these winds and for minor disruption to travel.

"A deepening area of low pressure will move east across northern Scotland during Monday evening, bringing strong westerly winds to many parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, England and Wales with gales and locally severe gales in places. A focus for some particularly gusty winds may be adjacent to the Bristol Channel coast during the early hours of Tuesday.

"A cold and showery northwesterly airstream will become established for Tuesday, with powerful gusts in and near showers, particularly over Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland and Northern England."

The warning is currently in place until at least 19:00 on Tuesday.
