Man Shot In Greater Manchester

A man has been left seriously injured following a shooting at a car wash in Greater Manchester.

The incident happened at Bolton Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, at around 5.20pm on Monday (30 March). It is understood a man wearing a balaclava exited a white car and fired shots. A man, suffering from serious abdominal injuries, later checked into hospital, Greater Manchester Police said.

In a statement, Detective Inspector Matthew Moore said: "Such indiscriminate use of a firearm could have resulted in multiple deaths. I want to reassure local residents a full and thorough investigation is already underway."

Wigan Christmas Crime Crackdown
Police in Wigan have launched Operation Reindeer, aimed at cracking crime during the festive period. The operation will see police officers focusing on shopping centres during the day to reduce purse theft and shoplifting, and at night they will use early-intervention tactics to reduce disorder.

Footballer Faces Jail Over Blackmail Charge
A former Manchester City youth teamgoalkeeper is facing jail over blackmailing another player over sexual images. Ashley Timms, 22, a former Manchester City trainee, demanded £15,000 from the player, who cannot be named for legal reasons. Timms admitted blackmailing the player between March 1 and April 3 this year.
