400 News Jobs Announced In Scotland

Four hundred new jobs have been announced in East Ayrshire and Argyll.

The jobs are being created by call centre specialist Webhelp UK, which will see its workforce in Kilmarnock and Dunoon double.

Recruitment is underway and the jobs are hoped to be filled in the next few months.

Head of recruitment Allison Hill said: "We want Webhelp UK to be an employer of choice that the best people want to join and stay with us for years to come."

Barclays Announce 7,000 UK Job Cuts
Barclays Bank have announced plans to cut up to 12,000 jobs, including 7,000 in the UK. Around half of the staff to be affected by the cuts have been informed, the bank have said. The new round of cuts follow 7,650 job loses last year, with the bank saying that 820 senior managers will be cut along with 220 managing directors and 600 directors.

MPs Urged To Do More For Disabled Workers
MPs are being called on to do more to help disabled jobseekers into work by the Minister for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson. The Minister said that members of parliament should take a more active role in matching disabled jobseekers with employers in their areas.

Bank Of England To Hold Interest Rate
The interest rate will be held until the jobless figure drops below 7%, the Bank of England have announced. Making the announcement bank governor Mark Carney said he estimated some 750,000 jobs would need to be created to reduce the unemployment figure to such a level. Currently the UK unemployment rate stands at 7.8%.

Tata Steel Cut 900 Jobs Nationwide
900 jobs are to be axed by Tata Steel across the UK, almost 600 of which will be at plants in Wales. It is understood most of the Welsh losses will be management and administrative posts in Port Talbot and Llanwern near Newport. 155 jobs in Yorkshire will go, alongside 120 in the West Midlands and 30 on Teesside.

£1bn Regional Growth Boost Announced
The UK's £1 billion boost to the Regional Growth Fund announced in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement last week is expected to enable the fund to support around half a million jobs in total. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg will visit the North West today where he will set out further details on the boost to fund, which will now be £2.
