Morrisons Sales Continue To Drop
There has been a further fall in sales reported by supermarket chain Morrisons.
Latest figures reveal that in the three months to 3 May, like-for-like sales – excluding fuel – fell by 2.9%. This is a further drop in sales from the previous quarter; there was a 2.6% decline reported for Q1.
The retailer added that it had closed more stores than it opened during the past three months, while more than 700 jobs are expected to be cut at its head office, which is based in Bradford.
A full assessment of the business is now being carried out, it was confirmed, and that more details would be released in September when the company publishes its half-year results.
Pre-tax profits for Morrisons are expected to be higher in the second half of the financial year. Meanwhile, in March, the supermarket said its underlying full-year profits had plummeted to £345m.
