Suspect Becomes Stuck In Mud

A suspect became stuck in deep mud while trying to flee from police in Essex.

Officers were called to Orchards Holiday Village in Point Clear at approximately 12.10am after reports of an assault.

When they arrived, a man in his 20's ran from the scene and across a beach.

A police helicopter later discovered the man hiding in marshland.

Officer Sgt Southgate said: "As we approached across the marshes the male waded out into deep mud before getting stuck up to his waist."

"We were able to get the male back to the marshes but due to the onset of hypothermia, he collapsed and due to his size, sat heavy in the mud."

Emergency services were eventually able to free the man by 2am and took him to hospital in an ambulance.
