Man Jailed For Stabbing Chip Shop Owner Who Forgot Order
A 29-year-old man has been jailed for stabbing a take-away owner five times for forgetting his order.
Leon McTaggart, 29, attacked the owner of Simply Fish & Chips on Hagley Road West, Quinton, on 06 November, stabbing him in the arm, chest and back.
It is understood that McTaggart "flew into a rage" when the chip shop didn't not know what he wanted when he asked for his "usual order".
McTaggart was caught after he was identified from CCTV images released by police on social media.
Detective Sergeant Leighton Shingles said: "This was a totally unprovoked, frenzied attack on a man at his place of work…he came very close to losing his life.
"From the CCTV, it is clear McTaggart was trying to provoke the owner into stepping from behind the counter. He is even seen waiting outside, knife held behind his back, for the owner to emerge from the shop after he damages the door.
"McTaggart is a dangerous individual and I would like to thank the public for coming forward and helping us to take him off the streets of Birmingham.
"While this guilty verdict does not make up for what happened to the victim on that day, we hope it at least provides some reassurance that McTaggart is now likely to be behind bars for a considerable amount of time, unable to cause such harm to another innocent member of the public."
McTaggart is due to be sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday, 13 July.

MSPs ran up an expenses bill of almost £13m last year, according to figures released by Holyrood. This shows an increase of 8%. The figures amount to a total of £12,818,835 being claimed in 2011-12, indicating an increase of £969,436 on the £11,849,399 claimed in 2010-11.

Police are searching for the owner of a Staffordshire bull terrier that attacked an eight-year-old girl in Eastbourne. The child was bitten in the face by the black-and-white dog on Saturday 17 October. The incident happened as the child walked with her mother on Colwood Crescent at about 20:30.

A dog owner has received a 16-week suspended sentence over animal cruelty offences. Four dogs, owned by 45-year-old Beverley Concannon, attacked and killed 14-year-old Jade Anderson in March this year. Concannon admitted causing suffering to the dogs, which the judge said contributed to their state.
