Man Jailed For Kidnap And Assault After Three Trials
A 53-year-old man has been jailed for seven years for the kidnap and assault of his former partner in 2010.
In July 2010, Ali Kolliari entered the home of his former partner and began beating her. She was then dragged from the house and forced into Kolliari's car. The victim was driven around and assaulted for a number of hours.
It was only when Kolliari stopped to get a drink, that the woman was able to escape.
Police arrested Kolliari in August 2010, charging him with kidnap and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, however when the case was due to come to trial, the victim refused to give evidence.
It was later discovered that Kolliari had been sending the victim text messages, telling her not to give evidence.
Kolliari then absconded and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
He was rearrested in July 2014 in Bedfordshire, leading to a trial in November 2014. This trial resulted in a hung jury and a re-trial was set for April this year.
Kolliari was found guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 27 April, and was sentenced on Thursday.
He was jailed for five years for kidnap, two years for perverting the course of justice and three years for actual bodily harm, to run concurrently.
