Goodyear To Close Only UK Plant
More than 300 jobs are to be lost with the closure of Goodyear's only UK manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton.
The US tyre company has announced that it is to move its UK operations to Europe and the Middle East in an effort to "strengthen its competitiveness in the face of a challenging business environment".
Some 330 people are currently employed by Goodyear in Wolverhampton, and those jobs are now expected to be lost.
The company said that it would do "everything (it could) to support all employees who are affected".

Six killed in Brighton motorway smash
Six people have died following a road accident on a section of motorway north of Brighton yesterday. The four-car collision occurred at around 4.30pm on the A23 – the main London to Brighton road – at Pyecombe. Three people, including a two-year-old child, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses after a woman was sexually assault in Wolverhampton last week. Wolverhampton Police have reported that a 35-year-old woman was out running in Penn on Wednesday, 28 October, when she was attacked in an alleyway off Westminster Avenue at about 17:00.

Wolverhampton City Council To Cut 1,000 Jobs
Wolverhampton City Council has said 1,000 council jobs could be cut by 2015. It added that it has "no choice" but to make the large scale budget cuts which will impact on both services and jobs in the area. Council Leader Roger Lawrence has described the news as "a dark day for Wolverhampton".
