Life For Man Who Murdered Ex-Partner
A 41-year-old man has been jailed for life for the murder of Michelle Jane Grey in December last year.
Carl Anderson was convicted of strangling Ms Grey, his ex-partner, following an argument at his home in Hillfield Street in the Bensham area of Gateshead.
He fled the area after the attack on December 20 last year but was arrested by police after they traced him to the Leeds area.
Anderson pleaded guilty to murder last month and on Thursday at Newcastle Crown Court he was jailed for life with a minimum of 12-and-a-half years.
Detective Chief Inspector John Bent, who led the investigation, said: "This was a brutal and cold blooded murder of his ex partner. A murder which had a devastating impact on her family.
"Anderson showed no remorse and fled the area to avoid arrest. The life sentence imposed today provides some justice to Michelle's family and fits the crime for which he has been convicted."
