Police Appeal For Information On Bus Racial Abuse Allegation
Merseyside Police have appealed for help in tracing a man they want to speak to in connection with a racist incident on a bus in June.
It is understood that a member of the public reported an incident to police after witnessing a passenger racially abuse another passenger.
Constable Joanne Brough said: "The incident happened on Friday, 5 June, on the number 75 Arriva bus. It was travelling from Liverpool city centre to Allerton at around 8.50pm, when a man began to shout racial abuse at a number of people, but particularly towards a black man.
"The offender was confronted at the time by a young white man in his 20s, who challenged him about his racist views and was congratulated by an elderly lady on the bus for his maturity in making this challenge.
"Another passenger, described as 'Turkish' in appearance actually tried to give him a £20 reward for standing up to the offender.
"We are particularly keen to speak to the man in this picture, or anyone else who may know him as well as anyone who was travelling on this bus and saw what happened."
The offender is described as white and was wearing a sweatshirt with either Chameleon Interior or Camellia Interior Designs printed on it. It is believed he got off the bus at Speke Road, near to the Marie Curie centre.
Anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4048 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
