16-Year-Old To Appeal In Court Over Schoolgirl Assault
A 16-year-old girl is due to appear in court today charged in connection with the assault of two schoolgirls in Northfield on Saturday.
Police launched an investigation after a video spread on social media showing the alleged assault of the two girls, accused of giving another girl "a dirty look".
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with robbery and assault and will appear at Birmingham Youth Court later today. She was remanded in custody last night after being charged.
Police have also appealed to anyone who published or shared the video of the attack to remove it from their social media accounts.
Inspector John Askew from Birmingham South Police, added: "We would also remind people, especially social media users, that now a charge has been made the name of the teenager cannot be reported. This could jeopardise court proceedings."

Former DJ Ray Teret, a friend of Jimmy Savile, has been found guilty of raping and indecently assaulting young girls. Teret, from Altrincham, was convicted of seven counts of rape and 11 counts of indecent assault throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
