Northfield Assault Teen Remanded Into Care 'For Own Safety'
A 16-year-old girl charged in connection with the assault of two schoolgirls has been remanded into local authority care for "her own safety", according to reports.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Birmingham Youth Court on Wednesday morning charged with robbery and assault.
She was remanded into local authority care following the hearing and will next appear at Birmingham Youth Court on Monday 3 August.
It is understood that the teenager has pleaded guilty to the charges, but has not yet been sentenced as the investigation is ongoing.
Inspector John Askew from Birmingham South Police, added: "We would also remind people, especially social media users, that reporting restrictions are in place and the name of the teenager cannot be reported. This could jeopardise future court proceedings.
"Whilst shaken the two victims were not seriously injured and are now recovering at home with the support of their families and friends."

Five 13-year-old scouts reported missing on Monday after in south-west Scotland, have been found 'safe and well'. The four boys and one girl had been hiking in Ae Forest when they were reported missing. Initial reports said that the teenagers were equipped with adequate clothing and torches.

Homes Evacuated As Disused Factory Burns
Dozens of homes in Leicester have been evacuated due to a major fire at a disused factory. The alarm was raised at about 07:15 this morning after the blaze broke out at a disused factory in Melton Road in the city centre. Roads surrounding the area have been closed and caused major disruptions to the morning rush hour traffic.

Gunman's Ashes Scattered Near Rothbury
The ashes of 'fugitive' gunman Raoul Moat have been scattered by his family near the spot where he took his own life. Moat died on July 10 in Rothbury following a six-hour stand-off with police. He had been on the run after shooting his former girlfriend, killing her new boyfriend and shooting a police officer.
