Man Arrested After Train Hits Car

A man has been arrested after a train hit an empty car on a level crossing.

It is understood the CrossCountry train, which was carrying 42 people, smashed into the vehicle at Clay Mills, near Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire at around 7.25pm on Monday, 20 July.

No injuries have been reported.

The car, which was destroyed in the collision, was empty at the time, but the driver was found nearby. The British Transport Police later confirmed a 35-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of obstructing the railway.

An investigation has been launched into an incident in which a car collided with a train in Berkshire. British Transport Police have confirmed a car crashed into a train at a level crossing at Datchet in Berkshire at about 06:05 this morning. It is understood that the 67-year-old female driver was not injured in the collision.

Man Dies In Car Trapped By Flood Waters
A man has died after his car became trapped under a bridge by flood water. The incident happened on Thursday night close to a ford in Chew Stoke, Somerset, eight miles south of Bristol. Fire crews and police attended but could not save the man. Rescuers were waiting for the waters to retreat before retrieving the car.

Two more arrested over attempted car bombings
Police investigating the attempted car bombings in London and Glasgow airport have arrested two more people. Two men, aged 28 and 25, were arrested in the Paisley area, west of Glasgow on Sunday night Five people are still being held in connection with the attacks, but it is believed that at least one suspect remains on the run.

Great Train Robber Released
Ronnie Biggs has been formally released from prison today on compassionate grounds. Justice Secretary Jack Straw yesterday approved the Great Train Robber's release. Biggs - who turns 80 tomorrow - is severely ill with pneumonia was told he is unlikely to recover.
