Newlywed Killed After Being Struck By Car

A man has died after being struck by a car, just one week after he tied the knot with his girlfriend.

Matthew Harding, 27, and from Oldbury, was hit by a car in Wolverhampton on Monday (20 July) as he was working on a communications box at the junction of Jack Holden Avenue and Robert Wynd with a colleague. The incident happened shortly before midday.

Both Mr Harding and his colleague were struck by a grey Citroen Picasso. Matthew, known as 'Matty' to his family and friends, was taken to hospital by air ambulance, but was pronounced dead on Tuesday evening as a result of the injuries he had sustained. His wife of one week, Danielle, was by his side.

Matthew's colleague, who has not been named, suffered a broken arm and jaw, and a twisted ankle. He has since been released from hospital.

West Midlands Police have said two teenagers, both aged 16, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Man's Body Found In Powys

A man's body has been found at the Royal Welsh Show in Powys.

It is understood a member of the public made the discovery.

A toilet block next to the cattle sheds at the show in Llanelwedd was sealed off by officers on Thursday It was the final day of the show.

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Officers were alerted by a member of the public and found the body of a 39-year-old male."

They added that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police Appeal Following Fatal Collision

An investigation has been launched following a fatal collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

At around 10.30am on Thursday (23 July) emergency services were called to the Banister Road area of NW10, at its junction with Chamberlayne Road. A woman, aged 82, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is thought the deceased had disembarked from a bus and was crossing the road when she was involved in the collision with the lorry. It was travelling in the direction of Kensal Rise, police hav said.

The lorry stopped at the scene, but police have said the driver was not arrested.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact police.

Chat show veteran Parkinson moves to ITV
ITV has signed up BBC chat show veteran Michael Parkinson on a two-year deal, it has emerged today. Mr Parkinson, who has hosted his eponymously-titled programme for 18 years, said that he decided to move to commercial broadcaster ITV after his Saturday night primetime slot was threatened by the return of Match of the Day.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Female Police Officer Injured In Shooting
A female police officer has been injured in a shooting in Leeds. At around 4am on Wednesday morning, West Yorkshire Police said two officers had been called to a disturbance in Cardigan Road, Hyde Park. They were confronted by a man at a property and a gun was fired.

Inquiry launched following Pc's death
A man is being held on suspicion of the murder of a police officer who died following a car crash early this morning. Northumbria police constable Joe Carroll, 46, died when the patrol car he was driving crashed on the A69, near Corbridge, Northumberland, around 2:30am on Thursday morning.
