'Good Samaritan' In Coventry Urged To Come Forward
A Good Samaritan who intervened in the suspected attempted abduction of a teenager in Coventry has been urged to come forward and speak to police.
Police said that in the incident, a 16-year-old girl was walking along Lady Lane in Coventry at about 21.30 on Saturday, 08 August when a silver car pulled up beside her. A man described as Asian began talking to her and asked her to get into his car.
When she refused, he got out of the car and tried to grab her, a man who was passing the girl saw this happen and told the driver of the car to leave the teenager alone.
Police are appealing to the passerby to contact them as he may have information that could help the investigation.
Police believe that the incident is the second of its kind in the Longford area of Coventry.
Detectives are linking this second incident after a 14-year-old girl was approached by a man who tried to push her towards his car on Windmill Road at around 20.40 on Friday, 07 August.
Sergeant Helen Waite, from Coventry’s Public Protection Unit, said: "Although the vehicles are different we believe that the suspicious incidents are linked.
"On Friday the girl described the car as a blue Vauxhall Corsa and on Saturday the car is described as silver in colour.
"We believe a man saw what was happening and told the driver of the silver car to leave her alone.
"The girl was not hurt but she was left very shaken by her ordeal and now we are eager to trace the driver of the car.
"Officers are searching CCTV for any clues and are speaking to people within the area to see if they saw the car or have any information that could help the case.
"I would like to stress that incidents of this kind are very rare and on both occasions the girls were not hurt. They did the right thing by calling us and making us aware of these incidents."
Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101. Alternatively people can leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers the independent charity on 0800 555 111.
