American In UK Jailed For Sex Offences Against Children
A 52-year-old man have been jailed for eight years for the sexual abuse of two young boys.
Geoffrey Gex, a US national living in the UK since 2007, pleaded guilty to sexually abusing the boys, as well as inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging a sexual activity in the presence of a child, arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, making and possessing indecent images of children.
Following a referral into the National Crime Agency’s CEOP command, Geoffrey Gex was identified and arrested in September 2014 by NCA officers. He was suspected of being involved in the live streaming of child abuse from the Philippines, resulting in officers seizing his computer and mobile phone.
Indecent images of children were found on Gex’s computer and some messages were found on his mobile phone, indicating he had been communicating with two young boys.
Ian Betts from the National Crime Agency said: "Geoffrey Gex believed he could communicate with vulnerable young people online and remain anonymous. Fortunately he was identified by NCA officers and arrested before he could abuse any more young people.
"Gex has potentially had access to a number of children both in the UK and abroad and we continue to work with our partners to share intelligence and safeguard victims wherever they may be."
