Seven Arrested In Connection With Oldham Armed Robbery
Police have executed a number of warrants, arrested seven people and seized cars, cash, drugs and weapons following an armed robbery in Oldham.
On Wednesday, officers from the Oldham Organised Crime Unit executed 10 warrants at addresses in Oldham and Ashton-under-Lyne and arrested six men and one woman on suspicion of robbery, money laundering and drug offences.
Six of them have been bailed pending further enquiries, while Ibrahim Ashraf, of Edward Street, Moston has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and remanded into custody.
Three high value cars, around £10,000 in cash, drugs with a total value of around £3,000, and weapons were seized during the warrants.
This was in response to an armed robbery that took place at an address in Oldham on 8 August 2015. On that occasion, three or four men forced entry into a house and assaulted the 43-year-old occupant using a handheld taser on him as well as punching and kicking him.
Detective Sergeant Richard Arthern of the Oldham Organised Crime Unit said: "With support from our neighbourhood policing teams, we have successfully executed these warrants in direct response to the armed robbery that took place earlier this month.
"We have seized a number of high value items and assets and I hope that our actions send a message to both the public and would be offenders that we will not tolerate organised criminality in Oldham and offences of this nature are completely unacceptable."
Anybody with information should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
