17 Injured In Bus Crash In Rochdale
A total of 17 people have been injured in Rochdale after a double-decker bus collided with a bridge.
The incident happened shortly before 12.30pm on Wednesday, 9 September.
The bus crashed into the bridge, on Milkstone Road, near Rochdale railway station, with the roof of the bus completely sheared from the vehicle on impact.
Some 25 passengers are understood to have been on the bus at the time; 17 of them have been treated for minor injuries at the scene. One man, said to be in his 20s, suffered more serious facial injuries. 11 passengers have been taken to hospital for treatment.
Emergency services remain at the scene.
In a statement, Inspector Stephen Clarke from GMP's Rochdale Division, said: "We are working closely with the emergency services to deal with all the passengers who have been involved in this incident and ensure they are all receiving the appropriate treatment.
"Clearly there are lots of people in shock but luckily no one was trapped on the bus. Our investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing and we would encourage anyone with any information to get in touch.
"Obviously there will be traffic congestion in the area for the next few hours, and we would encourage all traffic to avoid the area where possible."
