Deal Agreed On Jamaican Prisoners
The Prime Minister has announced a new agreement that will allow around 300 Jamaican's currently detained in British jails return home.
David Cameron made the announcement as he made the first visit to Jamaica by a UK Prime Minister in fourteen years.
It is understood that the deal, which will see the prisoners completing their sentences in Jamaica, has been in negotiations for a number of years.
As part of the deal, the UK will provide £25 million from the government's existing aid budget to help fund the construction of a new 1500 bed prison in Jamaica, overcoming one of the sticking points in the negotiations which had been the conditions in existing prisons in Jamaica. The prison is expected to be built by 2020 and from then returns will get underway.
The Prisoner Transfer Agreement is expected to save British taxpayers around £10 million a year once the first prisoners are returned from 2020 onwards.
Welcoming the agreement, the Prime Minister said: "It is absolutely right that foreign criminals who break our laws are properly punished but this shouldn't be at the expense of the hardworking British taxpayer.
"That's why this agreement is so important. It will mean Jamaican criminals are sent back home to serve their sentences, saving the British taxpayer millions of pounds but still ensuring justice is done.
"And it will help Jamaica, by helping to provide a new prison – strengthening their criminal justice system."

Foreign prisoners escape deportation
More than 1,000 foreign prisoners have been released in the UK instead of being deported, Home Office figures have shown. The number includes three murderers and nine rapists, as well as five people convicted of committing sex offences on children, seven convicted for other sex offences, 57 for violent offences and two for manslaughter.

Charity Claims Dubai Police Beat And Electrocute British Prisoners
Dubai police have beaten and electrocuted three British men awaiting trial on drugs charges, a human rights charity has alleged. The three men, Grant Cameron and Karl Williams, from London, and Suneet Jeerh, from Essex, were arrested on holiday last July after police said they found synthetic cannabis known as "spice" in their car.

Joint British/US anti-terror agency agreed
Britain and the US have agreed to establish a joint anti-terrorism agency, following a meeting between Home Office Minister David Blunkett and US officials in Washington yesterday. Also on the agenda was the sharing of counter-terrorism intelligence, joint training exercises, infrastructure security, and science and technology.

Prisoners' Privileges Shake-Up Announced
The Ministry of Justice has announced a major shake-up to the rights of prisoners to receive privileges, to be introduced before the end of the year. Under the new rules, prisoners in England and Wales will have to "work towards their own rehabilitation and help others" in order to earn privileges.
