Confirmed Case Of Meningitis At Welsh University
Staff and students at University of South Wales have been notified that a first year student has been diagnosed with meningitis.
It is understood that the student lives in the university's halls of residence in Treforest, Rhondda Cynon Taff. He is said to have been admitted to hospital on Monday, 28 September with meningococcal meningitis/septicaemia, according to a report by the BBC.
The bacteria lives in the nose and throat and is passed on by close and regular, or prolonger, contact.
Public Health Wales said that it is making arrangements to issue antibiotics to anyone who had contact with the student.

Fee support for part-time students
Part-time students are to receive an increase in financial support under new plans announced by the government. Under the new plans, students studying at least 75% of a full-time course will be eligible to receive up to £1,125 – an increase from the previous maximum of £885.
