RMT To Vote On Strike Action Over Staff Sacking
Nearly 1,400 workers on Virgins Trains East Coast are to vote on whether to take industrial action over the sacking of a colleague.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union claim the dismissal came as a result of a "deeply flawed disciplinary matter".
The case involves a missing Kindle from a train the employee was working on.
RMT said it is "in no doubt" the disciplinary process was compromised for a number of reasons, including "inconclusive" CCTV evidence and the only grounds for the members dismissal was on "probability".
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: "This flawed dismissal is a gross injustice based on no evidence whatsoever and should be overturned immediately.
The union will distribute voting papers to those working in onboard catering, guards, station and ticket office grades on Monday, 12 October.
The ballot will close on Tuesday, 27 October.
