Diver's body recovered from flooded quarry
The body of a 31-year-old diver has been recovered from a flooded quarry that has claimed the lives of over 20 divers in the last 10 years.
A robot submersible was called in to help with the search for the body of Jason Steven Dean from Wallasey in Wirral who was reported missing following a dive on Saturday at the Dorothea Slate Quarry in Gwynedd. Police divers found his body yesterday afternoon.
Mr Dean had failed to surface following a dive with four other people on Saturday morning. One of the other divers in the party received hospital treatment, but is expected to recover fully.
The quarry, which is almost 100 metres deep in places, is a popular technical dive site and amateur dive-training venue, has claimed six lives in the last 12 months.
A post mortem examination on Mr Dean's body was due to be carried out today and an inquest will be held at a later date.
The latest fatality at the dive site has again prompted calls for improved safety.
