Injured Lastminute.com founder returns to the UK
Lastminute.com founder, Martha Lane Fox, has returned to the UK after being seriously injured in a car crash in Morocco earlier this week.
Her doctor, Mohammed Missoum, said that the 30-year-old was “suffering from multiple trauma” and was flown home to the UK at her family’s request.
Miss Lane Fox was injured in a car crash on Sunday, near the seaside tourist resort of Essaouira in Morocco.
Dr Missoum told the MAP news agency that Miss Lane Fox had received treatment in Essaouira for an “abdominal haemorrhage”, before being moved to a private clinic in the Moroccan capital of Rabat. It had also been reported that she had suffered multiple fractures to her pelvis, neck and shoulders.
Miss Lane Fox co-founded Lastminute.com with Brent Hoberman in 1998. The website quickly became a success with offers of cheap holiday flights and it was floated on the stock market in 2000. The online retailer now operates in 13 countries with around 8 million registered users. It sells bargain air tickets and city breaks, as well as “last minute” lifestyle accessories.
Miss Lane Fox quit her position as managing director with the company last year, but her stake in the company is still valued at around £23 million.
