Investigation continues as armed officers shoot man dead
Investigations were continuing today following the killing of a 23-year old man by armed officers from the Metropolitan Police in the Thornton Heath area of south London.
According to police, a handgun was recovered at the scene of the shooting, which took place at around 11.25am on Wednesday in Raymead Passage, London Road in Thornton Heath.
It is understood that a 19-year-old man is helping police with their inquiries.
It was reported that two shots had been fired.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have confirmed that they are conducting investigation of the shooting, which is mandatory procedure in such incidents.
In a statement the IPCC said that the Metropolitan Police Service had been carrying out a "pre-planned operation" to arrest the man who was wanted in connection with previous firearms offences.
IPCC Commissioner Mehmuda Main Pritchard, who is responsible for South East London and an IPCC Senior Investigator, were called to the scene of the shooting to assess the situation.
Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Service on 020 8785 8168.
Today, forensic scenes of crimes officers were conducting a search of the alleyway where the incident took place. Yesterday, a gun was removed from the scene for forensic tests.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Police shoot man during anti-terror raid
Police have shot a man during an anti-terrorism raid in east London. The 20-year-old man was shot during the raid at a property in Forestgate in the early hours of Friday morning. He was taken to the Royal London hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. He was later arrested in hospital.

Police Shoot Man Following Stabbing Incident In Hersden
A man has been shot by police after being called to attend an incident in Hersden where a woman was stabbed. Police initially attended the scene at around 11.20pm on Sunday followed by firearms officers and police negotiators. The man and woman, who are members of the same family, are both in a critical condition in hospital.

Man Arrested After Police Shoot "Aggressive" Dog
Police in Birmingham have arrested a man after armed police shot dead an "aggressive" dog. According to police the dog was shot over concerns for "public safety" after Richmond Road in Bearwood was sealed off at around 16:00 when two "pit bull-type" dogs were reported to be loose. The second dog was captured by police.
