Two held over 'serious' sex assault
Two young men have been arrested in connection with an incident in which a woman was subjected to a series of "serious sexual assaults" in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.
The men, both aged 18, are currently being questioned at Chapeltown Police Station over the attack which occurred after 7am on Saturday morning.
A couple, who are both students – a 20 year old woman and a man aged 21 – had gone to Chapel Allerton Park to play with a frisbee at around 7am. The pair were approached by a group of seven males who started verbally abusing the woman. The boyfriend was then attacked and beaten unconscious by the group.
The women ran into a wooded area, but she was caught, pinned to the ground and subjected to a series of serious sexual assaults by three men.
The woman is said to be "extremely distressed" by what has happened and has sustained a number of injuries for which she has received medical treatment.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Chris Thompson said: “Although we have made these arrests, it is vital that we maintain the flow of information we have had from the public over the weekend.
“This was an appalling incident which has obviously left this couple deeply traumatised. It is vital that we hear from anyone who can help us trace the men responsible."
Detectives are particularly keen to speak to anyone, such as dog walkers or joggers, who may have been in the park, off Pasture Lane, between 7am and 8am when the incident took place.
Anyone with information should contact detectives on 0113 241 3283, or anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
