Team GB call in reserve equestrian athlete following training injury
The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced their intention to replace the Equestrian eventing athlete Sarah Cutteridge with reserve Mary King.
The decision has been forced following an injury to Sarah Cutteridge’s horse The Wexford Lady during training.
Will Connell, Team Leader for Equestrian at the Athens Games, said: "The whole team are disappointed for Sarah Cutteridge and the owners of The Wexford Lady. However, we look forward to welcoming Mary King into Team GB.
"Mary and King Solomon are already in Athens and are preparing to compete in the three day event competition. This combination has achieved some notable results including fifth at the 2003 European Championships."
The BOA has begun the process with the Organising Committee to replace Sarah Cutteridge with Mary King and the International Olympic Committee are expected to confirm this replacement in due course.
