Weather warning sees drivers advised to take extra care
Road users across England are being warned to take extra care when driving this week as strong winds and heavy rain are predicted to cause havoc for the nation's travellers.
With poor weather forecasted for parts of southern, western and northern England over the next few days, the Highways Agency has urged drivers, especially those in high-sided vehicles, to adjust their driving to meet the poor conditions when they arrive.
The Highways Agency, which manages, operates and improves motorways and all-purpose trunk roads in England, has warned that reduced visibility, flash flooding and strong winds will make driving hazardous in some areas.
Drivers have been advised to reduce speed, keep well back from the vehicle in front, check their brakes, and check the latest information on weather and road conditions before setting off.
The agency said that it would be working with the police to ensure that disruption from accidents and incidents is minimised and traffic kept moving. Where road lanes or carriageways have to be closed for safety reasons after heavy rain, the agency said it would work together with local authorities to establish diversion routes.
