Insurance firm moves 1,200 UK jobs to India
Up to 1,200 UK jobs at the Royal & SunAlliance will be cut and moved to India over the next two years, the insurer has announced today.
The company said that the move was part of its "UK business transformation programme" which is designed to deliver savings of around £10 million a year. Royal & SunAlliance said that it would adopt a "phased approach to scaling up the operation in India" over the next two years.
Chief executive Duncan Boyle said that decision reflected the "very competitive environment" and the off-shoring of hundreds of jobs would help control costs and offer "greater operational flexibility”.
“As far as possible the reduction in UK jobs will be managed through natural turnover and redeployment. We have kept our people informed at all stages and have fully consulted with our union partners and will continue to work closely with them over the next two years,” he said.
Staff in India will carry out a range of frontline customer service and back office administration roles across both R&SA and 'More Than'.
The operation in India will be run in the same way as UK centres, using the same performance measures and demanding the same standards, ensuring consistency of service wherever a call is answered, the company said.
