Three foreign workers kidnapped in Kabul
A woman holding dual British-Irish nationality is among three foreign workers kidnapped in Afghanistan today.
The trio – including a Kosovar woman and Filipino man – were assisting with the presidential elections when they were kidnapped at gunpoint in the capital Kabul this afternoon.
Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said that the government had already been in touch with the family of the Briton, who has not been named.
The BBC has reported that at least three kidnappers carrying Kalashnikovs forced the election workers into a vehicle before making off.
A group calling itself the Jaish-e-Muslimeen, 'Army of Muslims', has said that it was holding the three. The kidnappers have not yet issued any demands.

Oil workers kidnapped in Nigeria
Eight oil workers, including six Britons, have been kidnapped from an offshore oil rig in Nigeria, it has been reported. It is understood that six Britons, a Canadian and an American were taken hostage from the Buldford Dolphin rig in the early hours of Friday morning.

UK Property Prices 'Still Falling'
House prices in the three months to October were 1.2% lower than in the preceding three months, according to the Halifax. The financial services provider, part of the Lloyds Banking Group, said prices in October were 2.3% lower than at the end of 2009 on a seasonally adjusted basis (-1.2% unadjusted).

Manufacturing output shows slight upward trend
Figures published today by the Office of National Statistics have shown that between March and April this year manufacturing output rose by 0.9%. Unemployment dips to two-year low in UK
The UK’s unemployment rate is now at a two-year low, according to the latest figures released from the Office of National Statistics (ONS). Data for the three months to June showed that the unemployment stood at 1.46 million, a fall of 0.1% to 5%.

Three-year-old kidnapped in Nigeria
Gunmen kidnapped a three-year-old daughter of an expatriate worker said to be British in the Nigerian oil city of Port Harcourt, according to a police spokesperson. The girl was snatched from the car in which she was being driven to school as it was caught in traffic.
