Drop in house prices reported over Christmas period
The latest government figures have shown that overall UK house prices fell in December last year by 0.7%, compared to a 2% rise in the same period last year.
Figures published by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, showed that UK annual house price inflation in December 2004 was 10.7%, a drop from 13.7% in November.
The average house price in the UK in December also dropped to £178,906 from £180,126 the previous month.
The report showed that the annual inflation rate fell in almost all areas in the UK – inflation fell to 10.1% in England in December (from 13% in December), while in Wales, annual inflation fell from 24.1% in November to 20.8% the following month. Scotland also reported an inflation decrease, from 19.5% in November to 13.6% in December.
Northern Ireland was the only area where the annual inflation rate rose in December – to 16%, up from 13.5% in November.
However, the Halifax and Nationwide both reported a small rise in house prices last month of 0.8% and 0.4%, respectively.

UK house prices fall, report shows
UK house prices fell by 0.5% between January and February, figures from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) have shown. The drop in prices, which saw the average house price in the UK in February fall to £179,491 from £180,465 in January, is smaller than the 1% fall reported in the same period last year.

Annual house price inflation dropped again in October, according to the latest figures from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. House price inflation was 2.2% in October, a fall from September’s figure of 3.3%. The ODPM reported that the average house price in the UK was £186,103 in October, compared with £186,755 in September.

Annual house price inflation dropped to 6.9% in April, a sharp fall from 12.6% in March, according to the latest figures from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). The ODPM also reported a fall in mix-adjusted prices of 0.8% between March and April, which contrasted sharply with the 4.5% rise during the same period in 2004.

House price rise slowdown continues
Annual house price inflation in July was 4%, down from 5% in June according to figures released today by the Deputy Prime Minister's office.
