British soldier killed in avalanche
A British soldier has died and two others have been injured in an avalanche in the French Alps.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the soldier, who has not yet been named, was killed during an adventure training expedition in the area on Tuesday.
The avalanche is believed to have begun from the peak of Mont Blanc de Tacul at around 2.20pm (BST). The six-man team were reportedly caught up in the avalanche above 12,000 feet.
Two other members of the team received minor injuries, while the other three soldiers are believed to have escaped unharmed.
The Ministery of Defence said that the next of kin were being informed of the incident.
