Teacher found guilty of ‘snogging’ pupil

A female geography teacher has been found guilty of kissing one of her male pupils.

Shelley White, 25, from High Green, Sheffield, was found guilty of three counts of abuse of trust by sexual activity with a child at Leeds Crown Court.

The charges relate to three incidents were Ms White kissed a 15-year-old pupil three times in school, during the course of one week – twice in a classroom and once in a store cupboard.

During the trial, Ms White was alleged to have become infatuated with the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons. The court also heard how colleagues at the West Yorkshire school described how Ms White began dressing inappropriately for a schoolteacher, in short skirts and low-cut blouses.

Ms White denied the charges and claimed that the 6ft pupil had made advances towards her and physically assaulted her.

Judge Sally Cahill said that Ms White has portrayed herself as a victim throughout the trial and described her as a “victim of her own stupidity”.

Judge Cahill also expressed concerns about the high costs of the case, due to Ms White decision to “take it so far”.

Ms White was not sentenced on Thursday, but she was released on bail. She will be sentenced at a later date.
