Lawyer denies Glitter sex allegations
Gary Glitter’s lawyer has denied allegations that the former rock star had sex with under-age girls.
Le Thanh Kinh denounced newspaper reports about the allegations as “hearsay” and said there was no evidence to support the claims. He said: “What newspapers reported is just hearsay. There have not been any medical certificates to prove there was child sex abuse and how it was conducted.”
Immigration officials at Ho Chi Minh City airport detained Glitter – whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd – on Saturday. It was alleged that he had sex with a 12-year-old girl and another girl at his home in Vung Tao. However, it is unclear whether or not the second girl had turned 18 – the age of consent in Vietnam.
The 61-year former rock star, currently being held in custody, has denied the allegations. If found guilty, he could face up to 12 years in jail.
The disgraced former glam rock star received a four month prison sentence in 1999 for possessing child pornography discovered on a computer he left in for repair.
