Cancer fears for Status Quo guitarist
British rock band Status Quo have been forced to cancel their current UK tour, after doctors discovered a growth on guitarist Rick Parfitt’s larynx.
The band’s manager, Simon Porter, said that Mr Parfitt, co-founder of the famous rock band, had been suffering from a throat problem. He said: "This morning he saw Consultant Stephen Toynton ENT surgeon at the Nuffield Hospital in Plymouth who has expressed concern with a growth in Rick's larynx and has recommended that it requires urgent investigation.
“Consequently all 9 shows on the current sell out UK tour have been cancelled.”
Mr Porter said that the concerts would not be rescheduled.
The band’s manager also told the ‘Daily Mirror’ that there were fears that the growth was cancerous, although he said that the extent of Mr Parfitt’s illness would not be known until next week.
Mr Parfitt underwent a quadruple heart bypass in 1997, following years of heavy drinking and drug taking.
Mr Parfitt and his band partner and co-founder Francis Rossi recently made guest appearances in ITV soap ‘Coronation Street’.
Status Quo have been together for 40 years and have scored 61 chart hits since 1968, including ‘Rockin’ All Over The World’ and ‘Down Down’ – more than any other band in UK chart history.
