Trial begins in Thai murder case
The trial of two fishermen accused of the rape and murder of British student Katherine Horton has begun in Thailand.
The trial of Bualoi Posit, 23, and Wichai Somkhaoyai, 24, had been brought forward due to pressure from Thailand's government over the case.
The two men pleaded guilty to charges of rape and premeditated murder at the preliminary court in Surat Thani on Thursday.
The judge then adjourned the hearing until Friday morning.
Miss Horton, 21, was found dead in the sea off the island of Koh Samui on January 2. She had last been seen on the evening of New Year's Day, walking along the beach talking to her mother on her mobile phone.
A post mortem revealed that she had been beaten before being dragged into the sea where she drowned.
The psychology student, who was in her final year at Reading University, had been on holiday with a university friend.
An inquest into Miss Horton's death was also formally opened and adjourned in Cardiff on Thursday.
