Solway Sands search scaled back
Liverpool Coastguard have scaled back a search for a number of Polish cocklers reported missing on Solway Sands.
A major search, commenced following a report that up to 20 cocklers had become trapped by a rising tide on the sands in the Solway Firth, has failed to find any trace of the party.
Liverpool Coastguard coordinating a search, along with Dumfries and Galloway Police, for the cocklers following the unconfirmed report made to police at 1.45 am on Monday morning.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Portling, Annan and Burgh-by-Sands took part in the search of the scene along with a RAF helicopter from RAF Boulmer, which used infra-red camera equipment.
The Silloth RNLI lifeboat and the Nith Independent lifeboat were launched and joined a Coastguard boat in the search of the area.
It is understood that the cocklers were seen going out onto the sands at around 8pm on Sunday and were not seen returning.
Reports indicate that there may be 20 cocklers unaccounted for, but police are trying to establish if the reports, understood to have been made in different calls are from credible sources.
