Gas platform evacuated as fire injures two
A fire on a North Sea gas storage platform has injured two people, who have been taken to Humberside Royal Infirmary, with one person suffering burns and another shock.
The fire on the Rough Brave platform is reported to have been extinguished by 25 essential personnel left on board the rig.
However, as a precaution all non-essential personnel were evacuated from the platform, some were taken to a nearby platform and some were placed aboard the platform's support vessel, Putford Trader.
The support vessel had earlier alerted coastguards of the incident on the platform, which is around 25 miles south east of Flamborough Head.
Humber Coastguard had requested three helicopters to scramble to assist in the evacuation operation, one from RAF Leconfield and two from RAF Wattisham.
RNLI lifeboats were requested to launch from Humber and Bridlington stations.
The offshore gas storage facility is operated by Centrica.
