Wounded PC to return to beat
The young Police Constable shot and seriously wounded while investigating a break-in in Nottingham has said that she plans to return to the beat.
PC Rachael Bown, who has since left hospital, spent a week in intensive care after she was shot in the stomach, but has said that the incident will not stop her doing her job.
She underwent two emergency operations following the shooting at Queen Medical Centre in Nottingham.
PC Bown said that she had received hundreds of cards and gifts from well-wishers and had been overwhelmed and touched by the support people had shown.
She said: "The support I've had from colleagues and the force has been fantastic.
"It's unbelievable. I still can't quite take it in."
She said that she planned to write to thank as many people as possible during her recovery at home.
Doctors had assured her that her recovery was going well and that they are pleased with her progress.
A 24-year-old man from Bilborough in Nottingham has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of PC Bown.

Man remanded in custody charged with Pc shooting
A man has been remanded in custody today charged with attempted murder over the shooting of policewoman Rachael Bown. Trevon Kyron Thomas, 24, from Bilborough in Nottingham was also been charged with possessing a firearm. There was no application made for bail. He was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Friday morning.

A national police bravery award has been posthumously awarded to PC Ian Dibell (41), who was killed when he tackled a gunman in the street near his home. Mr Dibell died while trying to disarm Peter Reeve, who had opened fire on a couple in Clacton, Essex, in July last year.

The policewoman shot dead on Friday in Bradford was gunned down on her four-year-old daughter's birthday. Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, 38, was shot in the chest as she answered a call to a travel agents shop in Bradford. Her colleague PC Teresa Milburn, 37, was wounded in the shoulder.

Thirty-two-year old Pc Ian Terry suffered a gunshot wound to the chest after being shot by a colleague during a drill to practise apprehending fleeing armed criminals. The incident occurred at 11.
