Man and three children killed in house explosion
A man and three children have died in an explosion at a house in Staffordshire.
The blast happened just before midnight last night at the house in Hillside Road in Cheddleton, near Leek.
Police are treating the blast as suspicious. A man in his 30s from Leek has been arrested in connection with the explosion.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said that the house was "well alight and extensively damaged" when they arrived on the scene.
A spokesperson from Staffordshire Ambulance Service said that they had been alerted by a call, describing "sounds of some form of explosion from the property and screams."
The man and the three children are all understood to be from the same family.
Six other homes in Hillside Road had to be evacuated due to the intensity of the blaze.
Part of the road remained cordoned of on Friday as police and fire crews continued their investigations at the scene.

Body Found Following Explosion in Co Durham
A body of a man has been recovered from a house in Darlington, Co Durham, following an explosion. It is understood that fire crews were called after a suspected explosion caused a fire at a property on Lewes Road at about 02:50 on Friday morning. The body was found by firefighters after they entered the building.

Man Stable Following House Explosion
A man is in a stable condition in hospital following an explosion at a house in Camelford, Cornwall. The explosion happened at around 11.30pm on Tuesday, 1 September, in the Trecalgo View area. One property was badly damaged in the blast. A 68-year-old man was in the property at the time. He has been taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital for treatment.

Iraq bombs leave more than 150 dead
More than 150 people have been killed in a series of bomb blasts in Iraq. In the deadliest attack, at least 115 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a market in Sadriyah. An hour before that blast, at least 30 people were killed in what is believed to have been an attack by a suicide bomber in a car at a police checkpoint in Sadr City.

Suspected bomber remanded in custody
Suspect bomber Hussain Osman has been remanded in custody following a court appearance on Friday morning. Amid tight security Mr Osman, 27, appeared before Bow Street Magistrates court sitting at Belmarsh prison. He was charged with seven offences including the attempted murder of passengers on a Tube train at Shepherd's Bush on July 21.

Two people have had a lucky escape after a gas leak lead to an explosion that ripped their Exeter home apart. The pair understood to be mother and son were taken to hospital to be treated for severe burns following the explosion in Antonine Crescent, Redhills.
