Search on for British woman who kept 'slaves'
US police are searching for a British woman who is alleged to have kept two British girls as slaves for 13 years.
British national Mercedes Farquharson, 60, took over the care of Jasmine and Holly Lloyd while living in London in the 1990s when the girls' mother reportedly suffered marriage problems and was unable to cope.
She then moved the girls to Spain and finally the US.
Jasmine and Holly, now aged 22 and 18, were taken from Ms Farquharson's home in Monroe, North Carolina, along with her 15-year-old adopted daughter, after a neighbour contacted authorities.
Jasmine and Holly told police in North Carolina that Ms Farquharson did not allow them to attend school or have any friends. They also alleged that she beat them, forced them to work as many as 20 hours per day and look after a menagerie of animals.
The family of a social services employee is now looking after the girls.
Ms Farquharson is now wanted by US police on three felony counts of involuntary servitude, as well as on two felony counts of child abuse over the suspected beating of her adopted daughter.
