Humber Bridge death plunges caught on CCTV

Police believe that both a mother and son have lost their lives following a fall from the Humber Bridge.

Police have confirmed that the body of a boy found in the River Humber in East Yorkshire on Sunday April 16 has been formally identified as that of 12 year-old Ryan Davies who went missing with his mother Alison Davies last week.

CCTV footage shows two people falling from the 100ft high bridge on Wednesday April 12 and police are investigating whether Alison Davies, 40, from Stockport and her son Ryan, aged 12, jumped off the bridge.

It has emerged that a suicide note has been found in which Ms Davies apparently made her intentions known.

Detective Superintendent Colin Andrews said that it was clear from the note that Ms Davies was in “distress” and that she had wanted to relieve the family of a “burden”. He said that the note had stated that she had intended to harm herself and Ryan.

The CCTV footage appears to show two people climb the railings and falling about eight seconds apart. The indistinct images captured at long range do not show which one of the pair fell first.

A post mortem has revealed no signs of a violent struggle on Ryan's body.

The boy was autistic and is said to have had the mental age of a seven-year-old. Ms Davies had been suffering from depression.

Greater Manchester Police are working closely with Humberside Police in the investigation.

Police are hoping to enhance the CCTV footage and family members have asked to see it.

Police divers are continuing to search the estuary for the body of Ms Davies.
