Orange announces job cuts
Mobile phone operator Orange is cut up to 2,000 jobs across the UK, it has been announced.
The company, which is owned by France Telecom said that it wanted to reduce costs by 15%.
It is estimated that between 1,800 and 2,000 jobs in the UK will be lost. Full details of the job cuts will be announced in September.
In a statement, Orange said it expected the job cuts to be achieved through a combination of redeployment, natural attrition and non-renewal of temporary short term contracts, with some redundancies to be used as a last resort.
The statement said: "Orange is working closely with employees to assist with this transition and will ensure that all impacted employees are treated with respect and dignity consistent with our values."
Earlier this year, France Telecom announced plans to cut 17,000 job worldwide over the next two years.
