No charges brought over Tube shooting 'leak'

No-one will face criminal charges over the alleged leaking of confidential papers from the inquiry into the shooting of Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes.

The alleged leak was investigated by Leicestershire Police at the request of the Metropolitan Police. In a statement released on Friday, the force said that no charges would be brought against three people, who were arrested in connection with the investigation last year.

A 43-year-old woman - a former secretary at the Independent Police Complaints Commission - was arrested in September last year, while a 30-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were arrested last October.

Mr Menezes, 27, was shot seven times in the head by anti-terrorist police at Stockwell Tube station on July 22 - the day after a series of alleged failed bomb attacks on the London transport network.

The information allegedly leaked from the inquiry to ITV News cast doubt on the circumstances of Mr Menezes' death, because they appeared to contradict previously reported details about the shooting.

The information prompted claims of a police cover-up and led to Mr Menezes' family calling for the resignation of Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair.
