Lib Dem donor extradited to UK on fraud charges
A millionaire businessman who donated over £2 million to the Liberal Democrats has been extradited to the UK after being arrested in a fraud investigation.
Michael Brown, 40, a Glasgow-born businessman who is now based in Spain, was arrested in Madrid on fraud charges brought by the HSBC bank.
The case does not involve the Liberal Democrat party.
According to reports, Mr Brown is expected to deny the charges against him.
A statement issued by the City of London police said: "A 40-year-old British man has been extradited back to the UK following his arrest in Madrid by officers of the City of London Police economic crime department assisted by the Spanish authorities.
"The man arrested is currently under investigation by the City of London Police's money-laundering investigation unit in connection with large-scale suspected fraud.
"The extradition has taken place in co-operation with the Crown Prosecution Service with regard to a private prosecution."
Police said that a number of high profile and wealthy victims had been targeted in the fraud and added that further arrests had been made in the UK.
However, police said that the investigations were still in the early stages.

Police Officer Arrested In Fraud Investigation
A serving Norfolk Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of fraud and laundering. It is understood that the office was arrested along with two other people by detectives investigating fraud allegations. Police say that a man and a woman, both in their 30s, and a second woman in her 50s were held in Norwich on Thursday.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Thirteen arrested in bank fraud investigation
Police have arrested thirteen people in connection with an investigation into a multi-million pound banking fraud. The arrests were made following a series of raids co-ordinated by the City of London police, in west London and Bradford this morning. Eight men and five women were arrested. A bank employee is understood to be among those arrested.
